Default Big Day?

I see it is a big day here on the fourm. :-) A few new posts which is nice. Myself I am kinda just kicking back having my morning coffee and poping in to wish everyone a good day!! I see our smilies have a bit o a halloween theme going on .... I'ye Caption' ? For tabs on what I am upto lately .... I have a boat load of computers to refurbish and sell. So I have been prety busy working them over. Anyone interested in the Linux opperating system? For those dedicated to Windows there is an opensource prodject that aims to be a replacement for it some day. http://www.reactos.org is the address if you would like to check it out. They haven't gotten too far yet but it dose boot up and run a few programs. If you can't tell I am into a lot of diffirent OpenSource prodjects. Now if I just had some time to go fishing too :-)

Oh man!!

I would love to see something like that. ATM I am on my notebook, running XP. Works fine most of the time. My Desktop at home is a Vista piece of crap. I am planning on going Apple soon.

However, if ReactOS or some other operating system were available I'd consider rebuilding one of my dead systems.

I'd also glady pay someone like you to build me a system. I am just tired of throwing my money at overpriced operating systems loaded with features that I will unlikely ever use and that fail me half the time running the programs I actually do use.

OpenSource is awesome.

I run vBulletin by Jelsoft here, which is not opensource, but isn't that expensive considering the top notch customer service and the quality of the scripts. vBulletin has a 100% free board dedicated to enhancing their software though. Most all of the modifications on this board come from them. Just designers and coders sharing ways to make this software really come to life. Good Stuff.

For Help with the Website Post here. Or PM me.

And this is how some of the bills are paid, so... clicky for more info.

Apple thesedays is running a version of FreeBSD ... a unix varient. Just a stones through away from Linux really. That is why they are calling it OSX thesedays. It runs the same X window server as Linux as well. My primary linux distrobution comes with over 15,000 programs to choose from and runs on about any hardware you can think of including the MS x-box. Linux will with some help also run many Windows programs. The Wine prodject is the main supporter of this feature although there are others.

Default Differnt OSs

I have been giving some thought to your comment the other day. Anyway the thought occured to me that many of the OpenSource opperating systems thesedays offer a "Live" version. Kind of a try before you install type of deal. These "Live" versions run a little slow as they are limited to the speed of your CD-ROM/DVD drive but can be alot of fun to play with. If you have some old 286/386/486 systems check out the FreeDOS prodject. They even have a few GUIs that you can load much like starting an old windows system. I have an old 8088 system I connect to the net with sometimes just for kicks .... and they say it can't be done hehehehe PC Linux or Ulteo are about the most "New User" friendly linux systems I have seen lately. If you would prefer a unix I recomend trying out PC BSD. They need to update it last I checked but it still works good.

Well just a few thoughts,
Michael

Wow...

Nope, certainly dont have any systems that old lying around. About to scrap a Pentium III, in fact.

This is the sort of project that will have to wait. I got this site, my other forum which logs around 200-500 posts per day, and of course, a child!

Thanks for the info though. When I do get around to it, or have a question, I know who to come to.

Boy Howdy!!! Reading what you guys have written makes me feel like I've somehow logged into a "foreign" space... read, read, and re-read and didn't understand a thing!

Too bad, Michael, you are so far away...maybe when you take your vacation we can meet up and you can show me some of what you are talking about

Kathy, It is so good to have you around thesedays. You often have a way of bringing a smile to my face :-) when I happen to be a little down. Thank you for being such a good friend.

I have no doubt you two could start a thread discussing stuff that would have us clueless, too.
